Oh Happy Day!!!

Sunday, February 27th, 2011 at Compass Bible Church in Aliso Viejo, CA, my precious daughter got baptized!!!! I have posted pictures below, before and after, and both are just as beautiful, because, true beauty radiates! I think you'll agree.

This verse came to mind as I began to reflect on the evening, Zephaniah 3:17 "The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing."

A music pastor, singer, songwriter that I love, shares his interpretation of what this verse says to him, it actually moved me.
"The eternal Self existent God, the God who is three in one. He who dwells in the center of your being, is a powerful valiant warrior. He has come to set you free, to keep you safe and to bring you victory. He has cheered for you and He beams with exceeding joy and takes pleasure in your presence. He has engraved a place for Himself in you, and there He quietly rests in His love and affection for you. He cannot contain himself at the thought of you, and with the greatest of joy spins wildly around in anticipation over you. He has placed you above all other creations and in the highest place in his priority. In fact, He shouts and sings in triumph joyfully proclaiming the gladness of His heart in a song of rejoicing......ALL because of you!"
Still love it!!

I can tell you, our rowdy crew did some serious rejoicing at the baptism, the angels even told us to shhhhh, but we didn't, hee, hee !!!!!!!

Love you!!!!

Psalms 119:105 Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path.

Dear Babes,

I read this and was remembering how when my children were little I tried to explain this exact verse with a dark room and a flashlight. Darkness being without God, running into things, insecure, trying to "feel" our way around. Then, with the flashlight, all was illuminated! The exercise communicated this truth so clearly!
When my children entered Kindergarten at Stoneybrooke Christian School, they said the pledge allegiance to not only the flag, but to the Bible; I pledge allegiance to the Bible, God's Holy Word. Make it a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path that I might not sin against God.
God desires the Bible to be more than just a book. The Lord wants His Word to work in our lives as a source of illumination and direction for us as we navigate the dark and hidden turns in life!

Fast forward to today....., my sister sends me this youtube video of a group of people who had never seen or read the Bible, in their own language. They seemed to understand vividly how special His Word really is!! The excitement was beyond touching! It was a huge blessing to me and I'm hoping the same for you !!!

Sunset at the St Regis, awesome!!! Actually, awesome doesn't do justice to the beauty of the moment! I feel so blessed to witness this, the magnificence blessed me, yet, at the same time, made me realize my insignificance in the broader scheme of things. All I could say was Lord, how excellent is your name in all the earth! (Psalms 8)

I took this picture my first day on the job, I could get used to this!!! Come see me :)

A Great Story!!

As I sent my last email I forgot to end with an inspriring story of a missionary, William Borden. You can get a more detailed account of him online if you'd like. He was from the "Borden" family, attended Yale and graduated top of his class. When he began at Yale he started a bible study that included 100 of his classmates. When he graduated, 1000 of the 1300 graduating participated in this study!! He was highly sought after by everyone upon graduation because of his family background, academic, and, leadership qualities. However, he knew God was calling him into full time ministry as a missionary. The response of most, like Mary actually, was, "what a waste"! A month into training to be a missionary he contracted spinal meningitis and died, before accomplishing anything! Can you just hear the people now, I can?! The newspapers, amazingly, said this " a wave of sorrow went across the world today. Borden not only gave away his wealth, but himself, in a way that seemed more of a privilege than a sacrifice", WOW!!!!!
When they returned his effects to his family, his Bible was included, and in the back he had written these three lines,
No Reserves
No Retreats
No Regrets
WOW!!!!!

I have one thing written in the back of my Bible and it is a quote from my late Aunt that was written in her Bible and read at her standing room only funeral, "all the good in me is God, all the bad in me is me, and it's so true!
I hope that when you see me I'm showing the good!!!
I intend to add these three lines also;
No Reserves
No Retreats
No Regrets

We are better together!!!

Christmas Kingdom Assignment ll

This is the second email I sent over the holidays, they just get better :)

How this whole thing got started;
My landlord, Jordan, out of kindness and affection for my family, "gifted" us with free rent for December!! After picking myself up off the floor, I immediately began to think of all the things this would enable me to do for others as well as my family this Christmas. Everywhere I went, to anyone who would listen, I shared the story! Truly, I am still in awe!!
A few days later I came across "the book", mentioned in my prior email, and decided to take it on my trip with me, almost for old times sake. By the time I landed in NYC, I was sure God wanted me to use this money for a Kingdom Assignment of my own but I wasn't sure who, or what, but the seed had been planted and I began praying. Well, by the time I left NY 33 hrs later, it was clear, I intended to choose 16 people, family and friends, and challenge you with a "KA" of your own I could not contain my excitement. I love Mother Theresa's quote, "we cannot all do great things, but we can all do small things with great love", and I actually try to be purposeful about living this way, but, this was big, and God wanted to use me, neat! And to get to include people I love, and us work together, in all parts of the US, for the greater good, for God's Kingdom, cool beans!!!

I spoke with many of you before sending the original email, and, the "KA" buzz was having the desired effect, mostly. Two people in my 16 actually felt like it was a good idea but that to be respectful to my landlord, I should consider doing the assignment in part and keeping part, as it's original intention was to bless "my" family. These thoughts were well intended and I considered them, I am human, and $1600 is a lot of money! The following Saturday evening I went with the kids to church and unknowingly the entire service was a Christmas musical. The musical was quite good but as the time passed I found myself leafing through my Bible and came across some notes I had taken at our church in Austin the prior Feb.The teaching was on Mary, the friend of Jesus, taken from Matthew 26:6-13, in which she annoints Jesus with with the oil from her alabaster jar. Follow along as I share some of the points as it ultimately concerns you, and, the Word never disappoints!
First, the incredible cost. The historical analysis equates the oil to 300 days wages, it was VERY expensive. And, it was more than just financial, this money was likely her dowry money her parents had saved up for her wedding. In that culture a woman's dowry was equivalent to "a woman's treasure", her identity was wrapped up with her dowry as it was her passage into marriage. The value of this oil to Mary, I believe, cannot be overstated! But the text says, she gave it all!!!!
I thought about the two who had spoken to me that week and how the disciples had responded to her. It occured to me, she could've done what was suggested to me. In other words, she could've given 1/3(100 days wages) to Jesus, given 1/3(100 days wages) to the poor, and kept 1/3(100 days wages) for her dowry, and achieved the same result, some might think even better.
And, more personally, I could have given, say 10 of you, the "KA" , and kept the rest for my family, as intended. I am pretty sure, even with the lesser amount of sacrifice, most of you would've thought, that Terry......
BUT, that's not what Mary did and that's not what I'm going to do either!!!!I like her "radical" sacrifice and believe God is calling me to do the same!
When Jesus rebukes the disciples, telling them not to bother Mary, she has done a beautiful thing to Me. He goes on to say that wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told out of memory for her. What I believe Jesus is communicating here, and throughout the Gospels, is that it's not the financial sum of the gift. Anything we give to the Kingdom is not measured by volume, but by it's sacrifice!Rather than ask how much Mary gave, ask how much Mary gave up!!
I have decided to share this with you not to compare myself with Mary, or inflate myself at all, but to allow you to see the journey God has taken me on since I began the assignment and just maybe, God wants to use the story He spoke to me with your journey also. If you are asking yourself how this applies to me today, maybe a good place to start would be to look into your own heart , your own life and ask God to reveal what your alabaster jar is, your treasure. Know this God could put something "radical" on your heart also, and I for one hope he does!!

Blessings!!!

Make A Difference (MAD) Monday!

i sent this email to 16 friends over Christmas and think it's too good to not share. I am hoping some of the recipients will even blog about their experiences on this site. Or, you can choose to get involved personally after reading!

In 2004, I had the pleasure of meeting Leesa Belesi at our annual Women's Christmas Luncheon. She shared her story that day about the proposal she and her husband Denny had given to their congregation of 4000 at Coast Hills Community Church. It went something like this; after preaching on giving God your best, whatever that may be and illustrating the point with the teaching of the parables in Matthew 25. Denny explained that all we have and all we are is a gift from God. It is up to us to invest those resources in the Kingdom and watch Him bless us in the process. He said, I want this to be a parable we never forget! He then asked for volunteers for a Kingdom Assignment......., after the reluctant volunteers lined the stage, 25 from each of the four services, he took from his pocket $10,000 dollars and handed each volunteer $100 with these three conditions. First, they realize the money did not belong to them, it was God's money. Second, they were being trusted in a way that would further God's kingdom, and lastly, they must return in 90 days and tell what happened. In just three months, $10,000 had become over $100,000, thousands of people had been clothed or fed, the results were astounding. This "KA" lit a spiritual blaze in their church, won the attention of the national media, and influenced hundreds of thousands of lives across their community and around the world!!

Fast forward to Christmas 2010:
The Kingdom Assignment is alive and well. This year it has become my personal "Christmas Kingdom Assignment" and I hope you'll join me! As I finally finished unpacking from the move, I came across my autographed copy of "the book", reread it, and the truth that hit home the hardest was this: the benefits of Kingdom living can be realized now, without another moment's hesitation! If you are receiving this email, I think you're special and God does too!!!I will be sending you your own copy Leesa autographed especially for you. This book is about 100 people who decided to take God at His Word. They were commissioned to think and act like Kingdom people. It's the story of how that assignment changed their lives and the lives of countless others around them. With the book I am enclosing $100 and asking you to set aside the next hour and imagine you were in church the day the Kingdom Assignment was given. Sit in the the room as the excitement around these 100 people begins to grow and then explode in their individual worlds. I am asking you to take on a Kingdom Assignment of your own. If you accept....., be ready, because you'll never be the same again!!!

Let the God math begin!!!!

If you are reading this today, MAD Monday, my hope is it will inspire you as you are out and about, to look for opportunities you can do just that, make a difference, for HIM, today, and every day!!!

We are, better together :)

Thought for the Day

Make your plans SO big that you know you will fail without HIM!!
